De’Andre Hunter was selected with the 4th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers this past June. A pick that was eventually traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Thew Hawks are just passed the halfway mark of their season, with a record of 10-32 the second worst record in the NBA. Although it has been a rough season so far record wise, Hunter is having a decent rookie season.
Hunter has started in 40 games this year and is averaging 11.8 points per game with a field goal percentage of 40.1%. Comparing Hunter to his team mate and fellow rookie Cam Reddish, who was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Hawks, Hunter is performing slightly better. Reddish has started 27 games, averaging 8.6 points per game and shooting 33.1% from the floor.
Malcolm Brogdon won the NBA Rookie of the Year back in 2017, averaging 10.2 points per game while shooting 45.7%. Even though Hunter is having a similar season to Brogdon stat wise, he is not really in running for NBA Rookie of the Year.
This year Hunter ranks 10th in scoring per game, 9th in rebounds per game, 2nd in minutes per game, and 10th in free throw percentage among rookies.
