Brian O’Connor would be the first to tell you the last two years have not gone how he had hoped, with the Hoos failing to make the postseason in both years. What needs to be celebrated is the Cavaliers accomplishments of the last decade, and according to D1baseball.com, the Hoos are the ACC Program of the Decade. Let’s take a look back….

2015

In 2015, the Hoos finally broke through and won the College World Series after coming one game short in 2014. If you remember back to the 2015 team, it was actually a relatively disappointing regular season. UVA was one of the last teams selected into the tournament, I actually remember the last series of the season we needed to win the series against UNC to assure making the tournament and we did. We got but and had to head out west as a No. 3 seed.

I remember one of the biggest highlights from that magical run was Ernie Clement’s 2-run single in the bottom of the 9th to beat Maryland in the Super Regionals. Once we made it back to Omaha we beat Arkansas and Florida twice, which set up the rematch of the 2014 final against South Carolina.

The Gamecocks took game 1 of the best of 3 and with our backs against the wall we turned to Adam Haseley and Josh Sborz to pitch game 2. The two combined for a 9 inning shutout when we needed it the most and UVA won 3-0. That set up the decisive game 3, which UVA won 4-2, behind the strong pitching of Brandon Waddell giving the Hoos its first and only CWS Championship

Accomplishments of the Decade
